Residents displaced in West Yarmouth Christmas day fire

WEST YARMOUTH, Mass. (WLNE) — The Yarmouth Fire Department responded to a fire on the second floor of an occupied home on Gill Avenue Wednesday.
Crews responded at approximately 10:40 p.m., with mutual aid from Dennis and Hyannis, as well as an ambulance from Centerville Osterville Marstons Mills.
Most of the fire was contained to the its area of origin in the second floor bedroom, and the home sustained heavy smoke and water damage, according to the Yarmouth Fire Department.
Two occupants of the home and a civilian attempted to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher and were evaluated and released at the scene.
No first responders were injured while fighting the fire and the American Red Cross will be assisting the displaced residents.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Yarmouth Fire Department.
