Overthecounter eye drops sold in Hawaii recalled due to fungal contamination

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The Hawaii Department of Health is notifying residents of a recall issued by Alcon Laboratories for their over-the-counter eye drops.

Systane Lubricant Eye Drops Ultra PF Single Vials On-the-Go (25 count) has been recalled due to a potential fungal contamination. This contamination can cause infections in patients that use the recalled product.
Infections can threaten vision and in rare cases be potentially life-threatening for patients who are immunocompromised.
There are currently no reports of adverse effects related to the recall.
If you have the recalled product, stop using it immediately. Residents are encouraged to contact their health provider if they believe they have experienced problems related to the eye drops.
The health department’s Food and Drug Branch is working with Hawaii retailers to remove recalled products from stock. The product can be returned to the point of purchase for a refund or replacement.
