Local small businesses wrap up a busy holiday shopping season

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) - Some local businesses are in midst of wrapping up the holiday season, as it continues to be the busiest time of the year.
Mount Pleasant Towne Centre features several small businesses among the larger retailers. The stores opened back up today after closing for Christmas Day, including M. Dumas and Sons. This is its second location, which is undergoing its first holiday shopping season, and it has seen lots of traffic already.
"Well, we just opened and of course we are M. Dumas and Sons, 170 year-old retailer down on King Street," Scott Herron, store manager of M. Dumas and Sons, said. "We just opened a new store in September, started off a little quiet, and Black Friday happened, and it has been crazy ever since. It's really been great."
Other businesses added that they have also been busy since the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays had one less weekend in between them. Store managers said that new and old customers have been coming in for their service and product selection, compared to national chain retailers.
"Yeah I think since we have more unique stuff than like a big corporate brand or something, I feel like people come and get things you can't get at other places. Just for little special gifts and stuff," said Chloe Pack, store manager of Ivy and Leo.
Another special part about being a small business is that they are able to become apart of the community.
"It's rewarding you know, getting to be a part of the community. Like we get to do our angel tree every year, where we get lots and lots of donations for animals in need," Amanda Bryant, associate store manager of Hairy Winston Pet Boutique.
Towne Centre's is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 26 to Dec. 28, with their special hours ending on Dec. 29 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
