Woman, child dead after Christmas Eve fire in Driftwood

HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — On Thursday, the Hays County Fire Marshal’s Office confirmed a woman and young child died following a fire that occurred in Driftwood during the morning hours of Christmas Eve.
The Fire Marshal said 911 dispatch got a call regarding a shed or barn fire in the 700 block of South Creekwood Drive. Fire crews responded and later found two victims during fire suppression efforts.
According to officials, the victims were found in an apartment inside the horse barn. The county said the woman was approximately 29 years old, and the child was 1 to 3 years old.
The Hays County Fire Marshal’s Office said eight agencies responded to the fire.
Investigators processed the fire scene to determine the fire's origin and cause, but officials said the fire remains under investigation.
It is unknown if the apartment had working smoke detectors at the time of the fire.
