NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — Four residents and one cat were displaced after a fire at their Newport home on Christmas Eve. Firefighters received a call around 2 p.m. that smoke was showing from the basement at at a three-story home on Green Street. When officials arrived, light smoke conditions were showing from the basement and from other sides of the apartment. Occupants were removed from the home. Officials said an initial investigation determined that the fire started in the basement, with smoke spreading to all three floors. There were no injuries in the fire, however a cat was treated for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Categories: News
