PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A mother and her young son were among the tenants who lost everything after a fire ripped through their Providence home right before the holidays.
The same first responders who knocked down the flames stepped up to help once again, donating to the families who lived in the Elmwood Avenue home that was deemed a total loss.

The first responders went one step further for nine-year-old Andre Mannillo, crossing off his entire Amazon wish list.
12 News was there when Andre saw the gifts for the first time, evidently excited about the new toy car he unwrapped.
"It's a 69 Camaro!" Andre clapped when he saw it. "My mind is blown."
His mother Danielle Mannillo is just as grateful as her son.
"Seeing that car... it's just the little things that matter, you know," she said.
The fire happened after an already difficult year for the Mannillo family. Andre's father died in April.
"[It] was absolutely devastating and we were actually just beginning to try and heal from that," Danielle explained. "It's one thing after another, but God works in mysterious ways, I believe that."
The Providence Fire Department wanted to try and make this family's holiday a little bit brighter. Mannillo decided to save the rest of the presents so he could unwrap them on Christmas morning.
"We feel like we definitely, as servants of the community, that we have an obligation to do whatever we can even beyond whatever that call for service is," said Providence Firefighters Union President Ernest Sprague. "We're supporting them regardless, whether they're calling for our help or not."
