MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A man is behind bars after police say he attacked the mother of his child on Christmas evening.
According to reports, officers responded to an assault call at a home in the 3500 block of Shewell Avenue.
The victim told police that she had an agreement with the father of her child, identified as 24-year-old D'Anthony Holmes, that he would Uber to his mother's house to pick up their child, but would not come inside the home because he was not allowed.

Reports say while the woman was doing Holmes' mother's hair in the kitchen, Holmes knocked on the door then "aggressively" entered the home and charged at the woman.
The woman allegedly grabbed a knife when he started chasing her around the table. Holmes' mother and sibling attempted to hold him back, but Holmes grabbed the victim by her shirt and punched her in the face multiple times, reports say.
The victim admitted to swinging the knife at Holmes "to defend herself", but said that she did not know where she stabbed Holmes.

However, Holmes reportedly told police that when he went to the home to pick up his child, the victim "approached him aggressively" with the knife and stabbed him.
He fled the scene but was later arrested at his home and taken to Regional One in critical condition because of the injuries he received during the altercation. The victim was treated for minor injuries.
Holmes was charged with Domestic Assault - Bodily Harm. His bond has not been set.
Police say both the victim and the suspect have a history of domestic violence.
