It's the day after Christmas, with patchy drizzle and clouds sticking around. This will be the story for Thursday as a warming trend begins across Central Indiana. We'll have highs a bit above normal Thursday, approaching 50°, thanks to a southerly flow increasing its strength around here. Some clearing is possible in our southern counties, but cloudy skies will dominate overall. Cloud Cover By Hour Thursday Thursday Forecast Any clearing will be brief ahead of our next rainmaker on Friday. Rain should hold off until after daybreak. But some moderate to heavy rain at times will be around. Steady rain holds through the early afternoon, the activity becoming more scattered later in the day. I think our high-temperature Friday will be a touch later than normal once the rain moves out. See the Futurecast imagery below. The rain will continue into the weekend. After Friday, another slight increase in coverage occurs later Saturday and into Sunday. When all is said and done, I think additional totals of 0.5-1.0" of rain are possible with the higher rainfall potential being south of Indianapolis. With the rain this weekend, our temperatures will surge well into the 50s for Friday and Saturday. We're talking about highs 18-20° or higher above normal for this time of the year. Central Indiana will feel more like late October or early November for this timeframe. On Saturday, there's a decent chance several communities around here could hit 60° once again. Temperature Departures From Normal Friday Temperature Departures From Normal Saturday While this is the story for the weekend, the mild stretch will come to an end when New Year's comes around. The week will start dry and mild with some sun and highs in the lower 50s. But a change to cooler northwest flow returns to start 2025. This will return our pattern to near normal for this time of the year. Tuesday calls for rain with some snowflakes possible late. Then we'll cool down back into the 30s for New Year's Day Wednesday with scattered snow showers possible. Enjoy the mild while it lasts because we're going back to reality to open 2025!
