CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — Though they didn't win the big $1 billion jackpot, two Mega Millions tickets sold in the Triangle turned into big Christmas gifts for the lucky players.
One ticket bought in Chapel Hill through Online Play won $30,000 in the big Christmas Eve drawing, the North Carolina Education Lottery said. It matched four of the numbers drawn as well as the yellow Mega Ball to win $10,000, which increased to $30,000 when the Megaplier they added kicked in.
Another ticket purchased in Wake County also matched four of the numbers and the Mega Ball but did not have the Megaplier. The $10,000-winning ticket was sold at the Publix located at 425 Emissary Dr. in Cary, according to NC Lottery.
No one won the $1 billion Mega Millions jackpot on Christmas Eve, meaning the top prize for the next drawing on Friday night is an estimated $1.5 billion. That number would make it one of the largest jackpots in the game's history.
The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350. The odds of winning any prize the game offers are about 1 in 24.
