SAN DIEGO (Border Report) -- In the course of 2024, vehicle theft has been the most reported crime in Tijuana, followed by domestic violence and drug dealing, according to statistics provided by Juan Manuel Sánchez Rosales, Secretary of Public Safety and Protection. Numbers show almost 6,000 cars have been reported stolen in Tijuana this year. Since October, Tijuana Police has been conducting operations to reduce the number of vehicles stolen in the city, Sánchez Rosales explained. "We just finished two months of operations with other agencies, we've targeted groups involved in auto theft and have set up in strategic places where car theft is prevalent," said Sánchez Rosales. Owner reclaims impounded car with body in trunk He also stated, while still high, the numbers are down compared to 2023 when there were almost 6,500 cars stolen including 873 carjackings.
