A 56-year-old man who got in a minor crash on a Queens expressway was fatally struck by a passing SUV when he got out to look over the damage, police said Thursday.
The tragic chain of events began when a 39-year-old woman slammed her Mercedes-Benz into a barrier in the exit lane of the Clearview Expressway in Bayside about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Victim Arsen Aronov was behind the wheel of a Hyundai Sonata when he rear-ended the crashed Mercedes in the exit lane leading to the westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway, cops said.
When he and the woman exited their cars to look over the damage, a 24-year-old woman driving a Chevrolet Equinox slammed into Aronov.
Medics rushed Aronov to New York Presbyterian-Hospital Queens, where he died. He lived in Rego Park, according to the NYPD.
The other drivers involved remained at the scene as police investigated. No charges were immediately filed.
Aronov is the second man in a week to be killed while looking over a disabled auto near that location.
About 5 a.m. Dec. 18, Rajinder Singh, 65, was fatally struck by a passing flatbed truck driver on the westbound side of the Long Island Expressway near the entrance to the Clearview Expressway, cops said.
Singh was working under the hood when the flatbed truck driver clipped the rear of the stalled vehicle.
The impact sent the car hurtling into Singh, crushing him, cops said. He died at the scene.
