ACUSHNET, Mass. (WPRI) — A fire at a multi-family home in Acushnet claimed the lives of two people early Christmas morning. Crews responding to Garfield Street just before 2 a.m. found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home, and learned three people were unaccounted for. Fire officials said one resident escaped safely after a neighbor pounded on his door, and it was later determined that another resident was not home at the time. The roof partially collapsed while firefighters were working to extinguish the flames.
