GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) — A man wanted in New York for kidnapping was seen in Garner Wednesday night, and police are continuing to look for him late into Christmas Day. According to Garner police, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a car with expired tags. They then discovered the driver, 25-year-old Daveaun Whittle, had a warrant out of New York for kidnapping. Whittle drove off from the scene of traffic stop, police said, leading officers on a chase until he crashed his car at the intersection of Fayetteville Road/U.S. 401 and Manor Ridge Drive. The suspect then ran toward a nearby bowling alley and into the woods, where police lost him. K-9 units were called to the scene to help officers searching on foot, but as of late Wednesday night, Garner police are still searching for Whittle. Due to his kidnapping warrant, he is considered a danger to the public, police said. Whittle is described as 6'1" tall and "heavyset" with dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing dark pants and a blue jacket, according to police. Anyone who sees Whittle is asked to call the Garner Police Department.
