Pedestrian killed in Christmas night hitandrun in WinstonSalem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A man was fatally struck by a car that did not stay at the scene while walking on Christmas night in Winston-Salem, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.
At around 10:41 p.m. on Wednesday, officers came to the 5700 block of Stanleyville Road after getting a report of unknown trouble in the area.

At the scene, police found Dedrick Denorris Gaston, 49, of Rural Hall, dead in the roadway.
Investigators say that Gaston was walking on Stanleyville Road before he was struck by a car. No other vehicles were found at the scene and the initial call came from a passerby.
The WSPD's Traffic Enforcement Unit responded to the scene and has assumed investigative responsibility for the deadly crash.
No information describing the vehicle that fatally struck Gaston is available this time.
