You can now buy alcohol on Christmas in Colorado
Dec 25, 2024
(COLORADO) — For the first time in decades, Coloradans can now purchase alcohol from liquor stores on Christmas Day, after a bill signed into law by Governor Jared Polis lifted a long-standing prohibition.
For years, Coloradans couldn't legally buy alcohol from liquor stores on Sundays or Christmas Day, though restaurants were not included in the ban. The ban on Sunday sales was lifted in 2008, but the ban on Christmas Day remained until a bill was signed into law in May 2024 that changed many of the state's liquor laws.

The changes began to take shape during the pandemic, when emergency legislation allowed customers to purchase to-go alcohol from restaurants, in an effort to help struggling bars and restaurants survive the impacts of lockdowns.
Liquor stores are not required to be open on any particular days, this legislation simply allows liquor retailers to open legally on Christmas if they choose. And while some liquor store owners said they have other suggestions pertaining to state liquor laws, many agreed this change is a good start.
