Adams County sheriff: Charges filed after baby abandoned on median on Christmas
Dec 25, 2024
DENVER (KDVR) — The Adams County Sheriff's Office has arrested and is pressing charges against the biological parents of a one-month-old boy who was abandoned in a road median, apparently on Christmas morning.
According to a social media report, deputies responded to a 911 call around 9:20 a.m. from someone who saw the baby boy in a median near 7490 Pecos St. and stopped to help. The area is a busy roadway that's near an intersection with U.S. 36.
The person reported they discovered the baby in a car seat wearing only a diaper.
Investigators searched the area for camera footage and people who may have been in the area when the baby was left. The agency said the baby appears to be mixed race or Hispanic but did not provide photos of the baby.
The Adams County Sheriff's Office initially said it was seeking to reunite the baby with his family and find the person who abandoned the baby. As of about 4:30 p.m., the agency said it had been in contact with family members of the infant and was continuing to investigate. The agency said it would pursue criminal charges if appropriate.
At about 8:30 p.m., the Adams County Sheriff's Office said it had arrested the child's biological parents and was seeking to charge them with felony child abuse in the case. The parents were identified as Jarvis Sims, 42, and Christina Thurman, 33.
