LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - Students at the Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy welcomed the community to a festival of Hanukkah activities on Wednesday morning. "This is like the best day of school. Kids are all excited about the holiday. We got special activities. They are all pumped and ready to spread the light in the world," shared Rochelle Leah Kosofsky, Teacher at Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy.Students at Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy will attend school for only one day during the holiday of Hanukkah on December 25th. The last time Hanukkah and Christmas landed on the same day was in 2016. "When you light the menorah you like to celebrate miracles," shared a student. The holiday of Hanukkah celebrates the victory over the Syrian Greeks, dating back to the light of the menorah burning for eight days with just a little bit of oil.Students at the academy engaged in the celebration by acting out skits and decorating dradels. The Jewish tradition brings light to many across the globe. Wednesday marked children and staff coming together for tradition, some visitors traveled as far as Vermont and Connecticut to spread the light behind the holiday of Hanukkah.
