Popular familyowned supermarket in Baton Rouge to change ownership
Dec 25, 2024
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A popular supermarket in Baton Rouge is making new changes in ownership in the new year.
According to a social media post, Calandro's Supermarket announced that the Calandro's market in South Baton Rouge, located on Perkins Road and Siegen Lane, will be under the ownership of the Oak Point Market in St. George, effective on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025.
This decision came after serving South Baton Rouge for 24 years. Calandro's decided to partner with the Sumich family of Oak Point Market because of both companies' deep commitment to quality, community and treating employees like family.
The Sumich family plans to continue using some of the products Calandro's offered, while adding unique items that are signature in their stores.
"Our [Calandro] family did not come to this decision lightly. Serving the South Baton Rouge area has been an absolute honor and blessing, and our business customers, vendors, neighbors and friends here will be greatly missed. We felt it was the right time for us, with a wonderful family-owned buyer in the Sumich's, given potential upcoming retirements of key members of core ownership, and along with that, a sincere wish to refocus prioriities on family, faith, and other non-business interests, to consider downsizing. And, while it is bittersweet, making this change on a high note for Calandro's while being on top of our game in the South BR grocery scene was important to us as well."
