Former Hayfield wrestling coach Mark Voyce will be among 10 new inductees into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Minnesota Chapter at the Holiday Inn on April 26. Mark Voyce, who coached Hayfield to three state wrestling tournaments, will be honored, along with Jeff Becker, Brian Kelvington, Tom Gravalin, Chuck Marks, Heidi Schmitz, Jerry Schmitz, Harlan “Butch “ Steen, Dan Stifter and Charles “Chip” Rankin. Voyce has been on the mat for 16 Individual state championships as well as three state team appearances where Hayfield took runner-up honors in 1993 and 1996 and earned a state team title in 1997. After ten years at the helm, Voyce became a wrestling official and was selected to work the state tournament finals on three separate occasions.  Voyce attended Cornell College in Iowa, earning degrees in Physical Education and Elementary Education. Voyce took a teaching job in Texas, where he met his wife, Melissa, who was also from Iowa. They got married and came to Minnesota, where Mark was hired by Hayfield to teach third grade, and Melissa was hired to teach first grade in Austin.  Dave Erickson was looking for an assistant wrestling coach, and Voyce accepted the position. After four years, Dave and Mark became co-head coaches, and three years later, Coach Erickson retired, and Voyce took over the reins. Voyce was born and raised in Knoxville, Iowa, where he competed in football, wrestling, track and field, and baseball.  The schedule includes a social hour at noon, dinner at 1 p.m., and program and indications from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. A silent auction will be from noon to 6 p.m. The post Hayfield’s Voyce to be inducted into NWHOF in April appeared first on Austin Daily Herald.
