ACUSHNET, Mass. (WLNE) – Two people were killed in a house fire early Christmas morning in Acushnet.
Firefighters responded to a call for a fire at a multi-family home on Garfield Street at 1:50AM. Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke and flames and learned that three people were missing. One resident was able to escape the fire after a neighbor who saw the fire pounded on his door. Another resident, initially unaccounted for, was later determined to be out of the country.
Firefighters made entry into the home and found two deceased residents. The victims are believed to be a man and woman, both in their 80s.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
