COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- When clearing snow from roadways this year, one Columbus snowplow will spread a little extra cheer thanks to some crafty elementary schoolers. As part of the annual Paint the Plow project, Clinton Elementary School students spent six weeks working to leave their mark on the city equipment. Students at the Columbus elementary worked with their art teacher, Sarah Rough, who guided students through creating a bouquet design for the plow. Students were able to each add their own unique blossom to the plow, donating their recess time to do so. The aim was to allow all students to be individual and creative while creating something collaboratively. “Clinton students were excited to have the opportunity to make their mark on the city with this ‘Paint the Plow’ project,” Rough said. “The students were invited to add their own unique blossom to the plow during their recess time, and worked with me to explore this new material. We are glad to send this bright, colorful bouquet of blossoms out into the city to do good work, just like our Clinton students.” Mayor Andrew Ginther visited the school Dec. 2 with representatives from the Department of Public Service to recognize the hard work the students put into their design. According to the district, the students' artwork will hit the streets of Columbus and travel over 5,000 miles of roadways, including 217 bridges. Students will be able to see their artwork displayed on city streets as they help contribute to the service.
