GAHANNA, Ohio (WCMH) – A Chicago-style fish and chicken restaurant with a Southern twist recently opened its doors in Gahanna. In August, Dawn’s Fish and Chicken got its start as a ghost kitchen at 2864 N. High St. in Clintonville. It relocated to 134 Hamilton Road in Gahanna earlier this month, marking its first brick and mortar restaurant.  “Business did very well in a short time so we just ended up expanding over to an actual storefront-style restaurant,” said Shenese Cox, a spokesperson for the restaurant. The eatery serves fried fish, chicken wings, shrimp, deep fried lobster and seafood boils, as well as Southern sides including mac and cheese, yams, collard greens, sweet potato pie and banana pudding.  (Photo courtesy/Shenese R Cox)(Photo courtesy/Shenese R Cox)(Photo courtesy/Shenese R Cox)(Photo courtesy/Shenese R Cox)(Photo courtesy/Shenese R Cox)(Photo courtesy/Shenese R Cox)(Photo courtesy/Shenese R Cox) “The name Dawn’s Fish and Chicken actually came from the owner's late mother," Cox said. "She passed away last year, and he just wanted to keep her spirit alive and pay tribute to her and introduce the city of Gahanna and Columbus with something they've never tasted like a different style on Southern food.” Customers can choose to dine in, as well as order takeout or delivery through services such as DoorDash, Grubhub and UberEats. The restaurant also offers catering services. Dawn’s Fish and Chicken is open Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
