FAIRFAX, Va. (DC News Now) -- Believe it or not, some folks spend Christmas Eve shopping for their Christmas trees. For some, it's classic procrastination, but for others, there's a story behind their last-minute purchase. Where is Santa? How to track his Christmas 2024 journey Dave Warren purchased his Douglas Fir tree on Christmas Eve from His Creations, a family-run business that sells trees through the holiday season at Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfax. "I normally get it a week before, by the 15th or 16th," Warren said. But Warren told DC News Now his reason for his late purchase is a meaningful one. Both he and his wife have health issues and were not planning on getting a tree. But they did not want to do the holiday without one. "Normally we have a real tall tree, and we spend a lot of time and a lot of effort doing the star on the top and all that," he said. "As you get older, you get more vulnerable and you get more sensitive and more nostalgic," he said. "For that reason, you embrace it even that much more. You hold on to what you have and you're more appreciative for your friends, your family. You should be, anyway." Santa takes a swim at Hagerstown YMCA ahead of busy Christmas Eve night Alex Fearnley was working at His Creations on Christmas Eve and said they get shoppers on Christmas Eve. He said they include families who intentionally wait to purchase so they can bless the tree and decorate all in one night. "There's a lot of ups and downs, too, because I'm away from my family," Fearnley said. "But I also get to provide an experience for other families that are coming out last minute."
