HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Henrico family is looking for the missing piece to their puzzle this Christmas Eve, their missing 17-year-old son, Mitchell Leahey. “He has the biggest smile. Mitchell is such a sweet kid," said his mother, Katherine Leahey. "He's someone who, whenever he sees someone just alone or by themselves, he's always welcoming them." Mitchell Harrison Leahey. (Photo: Henrico County Police Division) Police said he was last seen at around 5:20 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, in the 4900 block of Dickens Road. His parents said that's where their family therapist's office is, and that Mitchell rushed out during a session. "He got upset about some things we were confronting him about," said his parents. "And he ran off, it was a spur-of-the-moment thing." His parents said he left without his phone, wallet, keys and even his jacket. They said they picked him up from work about an hour before the session, and it was something they did on a monthly basis. "That general area, everyone's door needs to be knocked on. Fliers need to be handed out. And I want everyone in that area to see Mitchell's face 100 times until he comes home," said Mitchell's father, Patrick Leahey. Since then, Henrico police have been actively searching for Mitchell in the area near Dumbarton and Staples Mill Road. His parents said they think he might have been picked up. "We just feel like someone must have just picked him up like a random stranger because, again, this wasn't planned and he did not have his phone," the Leahey parents said. Because of this, they are offering a $100,000 reward for anyone who has information that will lead to Mitchell's return. They want people to expand the search as far as they can. Here is their message to their son: "We just want you home. We love you so much, and we just want you home with us. Everything's going to be okay. Just come home." If you have any information on Leahey’s whereabouts or believe you have seen him, please get in touch with the Henrico County Police Division at 804-501-5000 or dial 911.
