VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — On Christmas Eve, Landyn Davis, one finger at a time, played Jingle Bells by reading notes.
Ten months ago, he was playing a video game on his father's computer when an unintended 45-caliber bullet struck him in the head. He was hospitalized for 90 days.

"Well, at first he he couldn't do anything," said Landyn's mother, Emily Rigsby. "He couldn't even hold his own head up. He didn't move his arms. He didn't move his legs. I mean, they'd ask him to squeeze my hand. He couldn't even squeeze anybody's hand. He couldn't talk. I mean, nothing."
Members of the CHKD violence intervention team remember those dark days. On Christmas Eve, they delivered one of Landyn's favorite video games.
Loved ones say Landyn is back. He's grown six-and-a-half inches since what his mother calls the accident.
"He still has his personality," Rigsby said. "I mean, he's smart. Hasn't lost any of his memory."
A few months ago, Landyn communicated with a murmur. Today he speaks 9-year-old American boy.
Regina Mobley: What's your favorite? What do you like to eat?
Landyn Davis: Chicken alfredo and spaghetti.
For the holiday season, Landyn participated in his first piano recital.
Regina Mobley: Do you love playing the piano?
Landyn: Not really.
Regina Mobley: But your mom loves it when you play the piano, right?
Landyn Davis: And make the my mom smile yeah!!
The past 10 months have been filled with joy and pain.

"There's better things that you could be doing out here instead of carrying guns and turning to violence," Rigsby said.
Landyn's wish for this Christmas is a gaming laptop to replace the PC gunmen destroyed. His mother wishes for a miracle.
"I mean, my biggest wish is for my son to walk," Rigsby said. "And, you know, get back to normal. ... Sorry. There's just some things that, you know, money can't buy."
