NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Some residents in Newport News spent Christmas Eve getting some last-minute gifts ahead of the big day.   Shoppers flocked to Patrick Henry Mall to get ready for the occasion.   Most had some goals in mind, such as checking off the items on their lists and finding the best deals.  “We out here doing some last-minute shopping,” Ramell Mcdonald said.   Some explained why they waited until the final hour to get the task of gift giving done.   "Christmas actually snuck up on us," Mollie Devane said. “Thanksgiving came around so fast, and then you know, Christmas is all of a sudden."
