KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- We're sure you've heard it a million times but giving is the true reason for the season. That very thing was on display right here in Kansas City and one local Greek organization went above and beyond.
At a time of year that truly is wonderful, it is also for some of our neighbors, the hardest season of the year.
'In a world today that can be cruel, that can be intolerable, that can be judgmental love can heal all that,” Lannie Smith, who led the effort said.
Love is exactly what Smith, and her crew decided to spread, with a little extra Christmas cheer on the side. Stepping in to pay for grocery bill, after grocery bill and the impact, well you could certainly feel it.

"It means that I have renewed faith in our youth. These women and young people were so gracious, so beautiful, so kind – I felt it from their heart,” said one customer who was helped.
"It means that God has blessed me, thank you, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,” another shopper said.
Each person touched beyond belief. Make no mistake, volunteers chose the location, Happy Foods on 31st Street, for a reason.
"It is our pleasure to impart back into the community that really needs it – so we like to come into stores in the communities urban core, a lot of the stores that are forgotten about. We like to come back and just bless folk, put a smile on folks face because you never know what paying for something as simple as a meal can do for a family,” Smith said.
Their acts of kindness, spurring others to step up where they can.
"God is good. I said no at first, but I have been told if somebody wants to bless you – you let them so I will return the favor later,” said one man who was helped.
"Do something, do something, go out there, make a difference in your community. No matter how small you can put a smile on somebody's face,” Smith said.

This is the group’s fourth year doing this. They gave out hundreds and hundreds of dollars, paying for full orders and they're not done, that was just stop one.
But better yet their mission truly isn't over, and they say, if you miss them this year, they'll be back next year.
