In early November, Mililani Senior, Kate Nakaoka competed in the Notah Begay III Jr. Girls Golf National Championship 16-18 age bracket. Nakaoka in the three round tournament finished in 2nd place. "I was really proud of myself because it was my first time playing in that tournament and also my last. So I'm glad it was a good experience to," said Nakaoka. The Mililani senior in three rounds finished 6-under par, which forced a playoff hole between Nakaoka and Kaylee Chung out of Vancouver, Canada. Nakaoka ended up finishing in 2nd place and shot 68 in that final round. "The girls I was playing with, they were kind of close to me (in score). I think they were maybe like one or two strokes back for most of the day. So I was really concerned about them. And then towards the end when I had like five holes left, I kind of looked at the leaderboard a little bit to see where I was. And then I saw that there was this other girl who was also catching up to me and like, we're tied. So yeah, that's probably when I looked. And then after that I got really nervous. Then I just tried to maintain my game and not let it fall apart," said Nakaoka. This was her first time competing in the tournament . Nakaoka was one of 4 total golfers from Hawaii in the event, the 3 others were in younger age brackets. In the girls 14-15 ages, Hawaii's Alexa Takai finished in a tie for 3rd place. Lahaina's Tehya Chumley was also in the 14-15 age bracket, while Kaneohe's Brooke Asao competed in the 12-13 ages.
