The owners and operators of Simpson's are keeping up the family tradition of serving Tom and Jerry cocktails on Christmas Eve.
The kitchen is closed.
The bar and fireplace room are open for friends and family to meet up and watch the homemade batter puff up as Chris the bartender adds hot water to the brandy and rum mixture.
"It's a family recipe," explained longtime customer Bryon Gyldenvand who lives within walking distance. "The Simpsons started it decades ago. They continue to serve it only on Christmas Eve. So as good as it is, if you want it, you've got to get it on Christmas Eve."
Bartender Chris Rasmussen said he never made this kind of drink until he started working at Simpson's.
"It's nice having one thing in common with Santa." Rasmussen joked, "We're both working."
Customer Mark Holat said the tradition of coming here the day before Christmas outdated his kids.
Still, they managed to gather everyone, including the grandkids to keep it going, no matter how busy they become.
