(COLORADO SPRINGS) — With less than a day until Christmas, some people in Colorado Springs were still looking a few last minute gifts on Christmas Eve. Shoppers in Downtown Colorado Springs told FOX21 News they were doing their last-minute shopping at local stores, rather than at big retailers. "I really appreciate supporting local businesses," said shopper Leah Gruitch. "They are a big part of our community and I like the experience of shopping downtown." "It was really easy. I feel like in Florida, it's hectic and everyone's running around there, shoving each other, just being nasty," said shopper Michael Benvenutti. "It was really easy and calm, which is what everybody wants." Once the chaos of the holiday shopping season is over, don't forget that parking is free on New Year's Day in the Downtown and Old Colorado City areas, if you'd like to kick of the new year with friends at any of the local bars and restaurants.
