Most popular North Dakota foods on Christmas
Dec 24, 2024
NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — A part of the holidays that's special like no other is the food you get to enjoy. Whether it's honey-glazed ham or some eggnog, there are a wide variety of food and drink choices that make it feel like the holidays are upon us.
A new survey by Fabuwood asked 3,000 respondents from different parts of the United States about their favorite regional Christmas dish, and found that two of North Dakota's signature dishes were on some people's lists.
While classics like New York cheesecake topped the list, the Peace Garden State had a couple of its own entries as well. Those dishes are:
#113 - Lefse - This soft Norwegian flatbread is not just a holiday favorite in North Dakota, but is also a part of the state's Scandinavian heritage. It's usually served with butter, sugar, or jam around the holidays.
#116 - Knoephla - This soup's creamy potato base and Norwegian-style dumplings give it a richness which makes it work well as a Christmas dish. Like lefse, knoephla is a mainstay in North Dakota homes over the holidays.
What are North Dakota’s most Googled Christmas songs and movies?
These dishes are classics in the Peace Garden State, but not every part of the country considers them an integral part of the Christmas feast. The dishes at the top of the list are more universally recognized as holiday favorites. The top 10 are as follows:
“Christmas is a time to come together over food that tells a story,” says Moe Soloff of Fabuwood. “This survey shows how deeply regional traditions resonate with people across the country. From classic comfort foods to bold, unexpected flavors, these dishes have the power to bring loved ones together and make the season truly special.”
