NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — Whether it's "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" or "Last Christmas," and "Elf" or "Nightmare before Christmas," we all have our favorite holiday songs and movies, unless you're the Grinch. Christmas movies and songs put us in the holiday spirit as we prepare to celebrate the year we had. A study conducted by Action Network determined the most searched Christmas movie and song in each state. Dominating the movie searches in 44 states — including North Dakota — is Home Alone (823,000 monthly searches), showing that the 90s classic is still as funny and entertaining today as it was three decades ago. It's in people's nature to laugh when someone else gets hurt, especially in movies. The other six states — Wyoming, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Alabama, Kentucky, West Virginia — looked up "The Grinch" (673,000 monthly searches) more than any other movie. What are the worst gifts to give your partner on Christmas? When it comes to songs, Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You" has 550,000 searches per month, leading the way in 45 states. North Dakota goes with the pack here as well. "Jingle Bells" leads in Oregon and Nebraska, also receiving 550,000 searches. Montana's most frequent search is "Amazing Grace," while Colorado's favorite song is "Mary, Did you Know?" Finally, Hawaiians stick to their own with "Mele Kalikimaka leading the way on the island. These patterns are similar to last year, with "All I Want for Christmas Is You" (3,350,000 searches) leading the way in 48 states last December, and "Home Alone" (4,090,000 searches) being the most looked up movie in 43 states during that timeframe.
