Berthold/Carpio Police Department delivers toys to kids

BERTHOLD, ND (KXNET) — Some kids will be receiving toys thanks to the Berthold/Carpio Police Department.
Chief of Police, Al Schmidt, says that for the last 10 years they have been doing a holiday drive for the Berthold Police Department.
Now, he works with side by side with Toys for Tots.
Families can face different challenges or obstacles like financial, health, or something else.
Chief Schmidt says some families may not be able to toys to kids at all. He likes to reach out to families in need to help make their lives joyful.

Chief Schmidt says that when he was growing up his family received help through drives like the one he works for so he knows what its like when toys show up when you do not expect them.
"When I can go into the residence and meet the kids maybe let them meet K-9 Hunter and then bringing the bag of toys, just let them go through it, and decide what they want. Then seeing the expression on the parents face its invaluable and it's very rewarding," said Chief Schmidt.
Chief Schmidt says it will be around 1,000 total deliveries when they are all done delivering the toys.
He also makes most of the deliveries on his own.
