North Dakota travelers say holiday travel has been "easy" so far
Dec 24, 2024
BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — "It's usually been pretty easy for us."
Easy is not a word we often associate with holiday travel, especially when you're taking that journey the day before Christmas. But at the Bismarck Municipal Airport, travelers like Kristi Burbank are getting a nice break from the hustle and bustle of bigger airports.
"It's not very big," she said, "so it doesn't have a lot of traffic."
"Depending on where you are in the world of the United States," said Alicia Burbank, "there are different sizes of airports. The bigger ones are the most complicated."
How frequent are festive fires in North Dakota?
This comes at a time when AAA is predicting 119 million people to travel more than 50 miles from their homes this year, which is three million more than last year.
Of these 119 million, close to eight million are flying by air, which is also up compared to previous years. AAA says the reason for this increase is because of greater employment stability, economic growth, and moderating inflation — and travelers say ticket prices haven't been too bad this year, either.
"It was the best price in tickets to go on Christmas Eve," said Kristi. "I got my tickets early, and I think it's not been that bad. I think my job was more, trying to get everything straight and finish up for that, stressful."
In fact, Kristi says it was cheaper to fly on Christmas Eve than Christmas itself, which goes against previous cost analyses of ticket prices during this time of year.
"By a good 200, 300 dollars, I think lower," she said.
Kristi and Alicia are flying to Texas to visit their family members that they say they haven't seen in years.
"Looking forward to family," said Alicia, "and my grandparents."
