BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Louisiana is among the top five US states to see an increase in sports betting revenue.
According to research done by Props, experts analyzed the latest consumer spending data from the American Gaming Association to show states with the highest growth in sports betting.
Research shows that Louisiana ranks fourth, recording $367 million in sports betting revenue in 2023, which was a 70% increase from 2022. Sports betting makes up for 14% of Louisiana's $2.7 billion gambling revenue in 2023.
The state with the highest increase is Maryland, with a 244% increase in sports betting revenue between 2022 and 2023.
"Our findings illustrate a remarkable trend in the sports betting landscape, especially in states like Maryland and Kansas," said Brett Smiley, editorial manager at Props. "The significant revenue growth highlights the increasing popularity of sports betting. It also underscores the evolving consumer preferences within the gaming industry.
