HAGERSTOWN, Md. (DC News Now) -- Volunteers at Meritus Medical Center were busy this Christmas Eve, boxing holiday meals for families in need.
This is the 23rd straight year Meritus welcomed volunteers for the community project.
This year, the Smithsburg High School girls basketball team joined the Meritus staff to help with meal delivery. Many volunteers from the Washington County Schools also took the time this Christmas Eve to help with the project.

"All these meals are delivered to different places," said Dr. Noah Keller with Meritus Health. "Some to private houses, some to cold weather shelters, some to homeless encampments."
"Every year I'll get a message on Facebook, 'Are we volunteering again?' and I'm like "Of course we are!" said Amanda Shaw at Meritus Health.
Meritus noted it is grateful for all the volunteer support.
