FORECAST: A quiet night, heading into Christmas Morning
Dec 24, 2024
Tonight, while most of the precipitation from this morning is long gone, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for Garrett County, Maryland, for freezing drizzle until 7 p.m. Outside the mountains, dry weather will be seen overnight; however, the skies will remain cloudy. The thermometer should drop back into the upper 20s and lower 30s overnight with plenty of clouds.
On Christmas Day, with High pressure near, it will be a dry day but mostly cloudy. Forecasted afternoon high temperatures will generally be in the upper 30s and lower 40s, with overnight lows dropping into the 20s.
Heading into Thursday, we'll see variably cloudy skies as daytime highs range from the upper 30s to the mid-40s. Heading into Thursday night, the skies will clear, and upper teens to mid-20s look to cover the entire DMV.
By Friday, a storm system to our west will drift the Mid-Atlantic region; meanwhile, the high pressure on our north remains very stubborn. This setup keeps us cool until the end of the week, as highs are expected to reach the mid-to-upper 40s for many people but stay in the upper 30s to low 40s in the mountains.
A warm front will lift through the region overnight Friday and head into Saturday morning, eroding the cold air and bringing in above-normal temperatures for the last weekend of 2024. In addition to milder air, we'll see a decent amount of rain. Widespread rain showers will take over the DMV Saturday night into Sunday, and a good swath of 1-2" is possible. Stay tuned for further updates to this weekend's storm system.
