Fight with parole officer leaves 1 dead in Fresno, police say

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A man is dead after being involved in a fight with a parole officer that led to a shooting in Fresno Tuesday, according to the Fresno Police Department.
Lt. Paul Cervantes with the Fresno Police Department says around 12:30 p.m. they were aware of a three-round shot spotter alert on the 300 block on West Cortland Avenue.
Police say the parole officer was making a home visit at a parolee's home.
According to police, during the visit, a physical altercation took place and the parole officer opened fire.
Police say the victim, a man in his 30s was shot and was provided with medical aid. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The parole officer sustained injuries from the altercation, but police say he is okay and was not hospitalized.
As of 2 p.m., police say Channing to West from Cortland Avenue will be closed for at least six hours.
This is an ongoing investigation.
