Dec 24, 2024
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- With every new year comes new experiences. From upcoming attractions to the return of a historic downtown concert hall, San Diego will be welcoming an array of things to see and do in 2025.
Here are just a few things to keep an eye on in the coming year:
New terminal at the San Diego International Airport (SAN)
The new Terminal 1 at SAN will host an additional 30 gates for airlines, spanning 1.2 million square feet. It also promises the addition of over a dozen new restaurants and shops, expanded security lanes and additional parking space.
Phase one of the new Terminal 1 Parking Plaza, opened to the public ahead of Labor Day weekend. The first phase of the Terminal 1 building, along with the second stage of the parking plaza, are both expected to be completed sometime in the late summer of 2025.

Balboa Park Botanical Building back open to the public
The long-awaited grand reopening of the iconic Botanical Building at Balboa Park coincided with the park's December Nights weekend with limited hours, getting closer to the end of the city of San Diego's $28 million renovation project.
Visitors are welcome to visit the new Botanical Building as restorations continue in the next phase of the project. The new design will include improved pathways and ramps, making the building and gardens more accessible.
San Diego FC's inaugural season
The new San Diego FC will be kicking off its first regular season match in franchise history in February against Los Angeles in Carson, California. The club's 2025 Major League Soccer regular season schedule consists of 34 games, with 17 at home, and 17 on the road.
San Diego FC’s second regular season game, which will be the team’s inaugural home match, is scheduled to take place at Snapdragon Stadium on Saturday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m.
Oceanside's brand new Frontwave Arena is now open with a full slate of concerts and events through the end of the year (FOX 5/KUSI)
Shows and games at Frontwave Arena
North County got its first -- and so far, only -- major sporting arena with the grand opening of Frontwave Arena in September. The "Gold Over America Tour" featuring Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles was the first event to take place inside the mixed-use sports and entertainment venue on Sept. 16 and 17.
The arena also welcomed the inaugural season for the San Diego Clippers, the G League affiliate of the Los Angeles NBA team, and serves as the home stadium for the indoor soccer team, San Diego Sockers. Check out the arena's website for shows and games happening in 2025.
Return of the Jacobs Music Center
The San Diego Symphony Orchestra has returned home! After years of undergoing a $125 million renovation, San Diego's beloved Jacobs Music Center reopened with the 2024-2025 concert season. The renovation project kicked off in 2021 and demolition and construction work began in 2022. Jacobs Music Center began as The Fox Theatre in 1929 until it was acquired by the San Diego Symphony in 1984.
The new hall, which reopened in September, is equipped with state-of-the art digital sound and lighting technology and the capacity to seat up to 1,823 people, according to the symphony. Plus, it comes with a full-sized pipe organ embedded in the performance chamber.
