‘Dangerous and lifethreatening’ beach conditions continue Tuesday

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The National Weather Service is warning of "dangerous, potentially life-threatening surf" Tuesday, one day after the Santa Cruz Wharf partially collapsed amid pounding waves. The weather service says to expect "very high" surf, rip currents, sneaker waves and coastal flooding through Tuesday for all beaches along the Pacific Coast.
Breaking waves could be up to 60 feet among "very rough seas" and ongoing extremely dangerous conditions, the NWS said. The weather service is strongly advising people to stay out of the water, prepare for coastal flooding and beach erosion and to "never turn your back on the ocean."

A coastal flood warning will remain in effect until noon Tuesday with the high surf warning remaining until 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, according to the NWS.
"Numerous roads may be closed, and sand berms over-topped," the NWS said. "Large waves can sweep across the beach without warning, pulling people into the sea from rocks, jetties and beaches."
The weather service is advising travelers to not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
"Everyone should remain out of the water due to life-threatening surf conditions," the NWS said. "Stay off of jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure."
