Walgreens on State Street set to close
Dec 24, 2024
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Walgreens pharmacy on State Street will permanently close on January 21st, 2025.
Earlier this year the corporation announcing it will close more than 1,000 stores over the next three years targeting underperforming locations.
"I think it stinks. I use this Walgreens quite often," shared Phil Roncarati.
"I come here for my medicine and everyday groceries," said David Taimanglo. The State Street location is a staple for the community when it comes to prescriptions and an easy in and out for groceries. According to Walgreens, all of their pharmacy customers have been notified by mail.
The store also posting the notice at the location and sharing the news recorded on the pharmacy voicemail. Phil Roncarati is a frequent customer and currently walks to the location on State Street as his car is not in service, "This closing down puts a huge inconvenience trying to get medication."
The closure forced some customers to search for a new pharmacy. "I'll stay with CVS for what I can, I'm probably going to either end up in Ludlow taking a bus there or Carew St," shared Phil Roncarati.
According to the corporation, once your store closes you can select any Walgreens location to continue filling your prescriptions. Patient information is available across all locations.
"I'll probably just go to CVS because CVS is right up here," expressed David Taimanglo.
The closure drifts some patients away as State Street has been a convenience for more than three decades.
