ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – With Christmas only hours away, kitchens around New Mexico are cranking out thousands of tamales, and perhaps none more than El Modelo who have been in business for nearly 100 years. "It's great. This is the spot. Everybody showing up like this, just let's you know that this is the spot. Especially when families show up, you know the food is good," said Steve White.
Albuquerque residents can recycle real Christmas trees starting on Thursday
El Modelo opened in 1929. Originally the historic restaurant was a family home, with the business being run out of one of the rooms. Customers were waiting since early in the morning to get their hands on the tamales before they sell out.
