NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Fire Department said crews worked to contain an oil spill after a boat fire on Tuesday.
Around 8:38 a.m., crews were sent to Merrill’s Wharf on reports of a fire on a fishing vessel.
At the scene, New Bedford firefighters reported smoke coming from a lobster boat.
A hose line was deployed, and crews extinguished the fire inside the pilot house.
Additionally, officials said there was an oil spill in the area of the vessel, and Marine 38 deployed booms, which slows the spread of oil and contain spills.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the New Bedford Fire Department.
