ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A hot air balloon crashed into a power line in Isle of Wight County in the area of Braswell Drive and Blue Ridge Trail near Windsor. WAVY viewer Tamika Copeland captured a photo of the hot air balloon dangling on the wire, with people visible in the bucket. (WAVY viewer photo - Tamika Copeland) Virginia State Police said it was dispatched to a hot air balloon crash into a power line in the 22000 block of Braswell Drive in Isle of Wight County at 3:44 p.m. State Police said no one was injured, and troopers were still on the scene as of 5 p.m. The hot air balloon was off the power line as of 4:15 p.m., and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash. The pilot of the hot air balloon, who declined to give his name, said a gust of wind came up and he realized they were heading to power lines, and then he did everything the way he was trained to do — immediately deflating the balloon and said they had mostly landed when the balloon wrapped around the power lines. The pilot said no one was hurt and the family onboard the hot air balloon was in good spirits.
