Rain, patchy fog expected on Christmas Day in New Orleans
Dec 24, 2024
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — After a couple of sunny days with mild temperatures, changes are on the way for Christmas Day across the region.
Christmas Eve will remain mostly quiet, with increasing clouds late at night and temperatures holding steady in the upper 50s. A few light showers may develop over coastal areas before sunrise, but most festivities on Christmas Eve should remain dry.
On Christmas Day, expect a cloudy start with patchy fog developing in the afternoon as rain chances increase. Showers are likely, especially during the late morning and afternoon hours, with isolated thunderstorms possible.
While severe weather isn’t anticipated, a few storms could bring localized heavy rain. Temperatures will reach the mid- to upper-60s with gusty winds up to 30 mph in some areas.
As the day progresses, fog could become a more significant issue, especially by evening. Travelers should be cautious on the roads late Christmas night as visibility may be reduced.
Rain chances continue into Thursday, with unseasonably warm weather expected through the weekend. Highs could climb into the 70s, nearly 15 degrees above average for late December. A potential cold front may finally clear out the rain by Monday.
