GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Day 1 of the 19th Annual Green Bay Winter Holiday Blood Drive kicked off at St. John Baptist School in the morning on Christmas Eve. Anybody willing and able to donate blood is urged to give during these drives, but this year's was especially in need of type O blood donors or those giving platelets. Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers releases statement after passing of former State Senator, Tim Cullen In its 19th year, this specific drive has collected more than 2,400 donations, helping individuals in life-saving situations. Each year, more than 150 locals come to donate. "One thing I've learned in our region here in Wisconsin, is we're one of the higher givers as far as the nation goes. And our blood goes all over the nation," donor Pamela Krumrei said. "My blood has gone to Texas, to North Carolina and it's a gift you can give to people you don't even know. Hopefully, you're saving their life." Those who came on Christmas Eve got a Red Cross-branded t-shirt. According to the release, seasonal illness, holiday events and travel often delay blood donors in giving, which causes challenges for the country's blood supply. Wisconsin Gov.
