BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Toys, photos with Santa and hot chocolate and cookies were provided for children at the California Highway Patrol Mojave Area's third annual CHiPs for Kids Toy Giveaway.
Held Dec. 14 in partnership with the Mojave Air & Space Port, the event made sure more than 600 children who otherwise might not have received a gift didn't go home empty-handed.

"The generosity of the East Kern communities and the tireless efforts of our volunteers have brought holiday joy to so many families," Mojave CHP Commander Lt. Maria Pagano said in a release.
Forty-nine decorated Christmas trees were raffled off and children were even treated to a surprise visit from the Grinch, the release says. The event was held at the Stuart O. Witt Event Center.
