MCPD seeks public's help in identifying 2 men in Silver Spring bank card scheme

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- Detectives with the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) are asking for the community's help in identifying two men who were allegedly involved in a bank card scheme in Silver Spring.
During the investigation, the police department learned that the incidents happened at the beginning of October 2024 at the Bank of America located in the 13700 block of Connecticut Avenue.
MCPD said that on Oct. 2, the victim was at the ATM when he was approached by two people. He told police that the suspects, two men, stated the ATM card slot was broken and they advised him to tap his card instead. That's when one of the suspects grabbed his bank card and tried to show him how to use it.

During the demonstration, the suspect swapped the man's bank card and gave him a different one. After trying to use the card again, the victim went inside Bank of America, where he learned that the suspect had taken his bank card, according to police.
Police said the victim then started receiving multiple notifications for withdrawals and fraudulent transactions.
As the investigation continued, detectives learned that on Oct. 4, another victim was targeted at the same ATM.
According to MCPD, the victim was trying to use the ATM when a man approached him. During the interaction, the suspect was able to swap the victim's bank card with another card.

After reviewing surveillance videos, police learned that the same two men were present during both incidents. MCPD said that both men were Hispanic.

Police said it is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the suspects.
