5 hospitalized after incident on Heavenly’s Comet Express chairlift

(KRON) -- Heavenly Mountain Resort is investigating an incident that occurred on its Comet Express chairlift on Monday morning. Officials confirmed that five people were hospitalized.

"Heavenly Mountain Resort can confirm an incident occurred on its Comet Express chairlift today," the resort said in part. "The safety of our guests is our top priority and the resort is investigating the incident." According to the Heavenly website, the chairlift is currently closed.

A photo from the scene appeared to show two chair lift chairs that had come in contact with each other. A second photo appeared to show several first responders gathered beneath a chair lift pole, roughly 25 feet below the chairs above.
The Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District responded to Heavenly at 10:10 a.m. with two engines and three rescue ambulances. Five patients were transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, fire officials said. The extent of patients' injuries and their current conditions are unknown.
