Fog returns tonight east; Rain chances to start the weekend
Dec 24, 2024
SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) —Good morning KELOLAND! Fog is our top weather story this morning in eastern KELOLAND. The fog is putting down some frost on those pretty Christmas decorations in Luverne as seen on this LIVE Cam picture below.
The frost is even thicker in Webster. That's one location that will see a white Christmas this year.
On the maps, the dense fog advisory includes a large part of central and eastern KELOLAND. Slow down and be aware of some patchy frost and ice on the roads. The worst of the fog will break up as we head toward late morning.
Futurecast below shows temperatures climbing into the lower 30s in Sioux Falls and Aberdeen this afternoon. Pierre will be warmer in the lower 40s, with Rapid City once again climbing to 51. Areas of fog will redevelop tonight in eastern KELOLAND, something to watch for Christmas morning. Overall, dry conditions will continue into Christmas day with highs in the 40s west and 30s east.
We still expect some rain chances on Friday into Saturday across portions of eastern KELOLAND. While the heaviest of the rain will go east of us, we will continue to watch the far northern and western portion of that storm system. Rain totals could quickly increase toward Worthington or Spencer, IA. Also, another disturbance will arrive in western and central KELOLAND on Monday. This one could produce both rain and snow. The track of the system can still change, but check back for updates over the next few days.
There will be no shortage of mild weather in the region the next few days. You can see we are not alone in the video below.
Here are the details of the forecast.
